2015: We ’ll Support Candidates With Rivers Interest – Amaechi …Gov Assures On Completion Of Elioparanwo Road
Catholic Bishop of Bauchi Diocese, Most Rev. Malachy John-Goltok, performing Confirmation on some Catholics at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Tumfure, Gombe, yesterday.
Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi says he will vote, mobilise and lead Rivers people to vote any eligible Nigerian as President in 2015, if he’s convinced the interests of Rivers people will be served and protected by that person.
Amaechi made the remarks shortly after receiving the Port Harcourt Centenary Award at the weekend (Saturday Night) at the Banquet/Award Night at Government House in Port Harcourt, last Saturday, Governor Amaechi explained that he was voted into office as Governor to protect and defend the interests of Rivers people and was ready to uphold this mandate with a view to ensuring accountable stewardship, transparency and good governance.
In his words, “show me one new thing to indicate that Rivers people have benefitted from the 2.1 million votes given to President Jonathan in the 2011 elections. I was voted into office to defend the interests of Rivers people and I will continue to defend the interests of Rivers people. The Bonny-Bodo Federal road has been abandoned, the renovation of the Port Harcourt international airport is very slow…if you compare Lagos international airport, Kano, Benin, Enugu and others, you will understand that ours is backward…but why Rivers State?”
Governor Amaechi, while also lamenting the eventual take over and loss of oil wells to neighbouring states including Abia and Bayelsa states, urged the Federal Government to refund over 105 billion Naira owed the Rivers State Government that was spent on Federal government roads that were neglected and abandoned.
He also said “Port Harcourt is hundred years now and as far as we are celebrating it, we need to see the development that has impacted on our environment. But, I can see that we don’t have Federal support, and that is why I said, we can only defend our interests as Rivers people through our votes…We will embark on house to house campaign to tell our people the need for them to fight for their interests”.
He further advised Rivers people to see the Port Harcourt city centenary celebration as a moment of assessing and evaluating the level of development in the state and work towards strengthening our democracy for development to impact on our people in the current political dispensation.
Amaechi equally commended residents and Rivers people for their peaceful disposition and co-existence, especially at a time when the state capital was being celebrated.
Also speaking, the Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District, Senator Wilson Ake said, “the celebration of one hundred years of our state capital, Port Harcourt is an indication that the state needs more development”.
Meanwhile, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has also reiterated his commitment to the quick completion of the ongoing Elioparanwo road construction project before the end of the dry season.
He was speaking yesterday during the 17th Year Anniversary Celebration of Liberation Power Ministries, End-Time Jesus Army Eja Force in Port Harcourt with the theme: “If this work is of God” held at the Cathedral headquarters at Elioparanwo in the Obio Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
He said the contractor handling the road project has been fully paid and will continue work until the project is completed for use by the people, adding “it is the responsibility of government to provide roads for you, and that is what we are doing to see that the Elioparanwo road was completed before the end of the dry season. I have promised and we will do it, but, please, don’t use the state of the road now as an excuse to stop coming to church. We have paid the contractor and we hope he will deliver”.
“I thank you (the church) for the honour of inviting me to church, especially at your 17th year Anniversary Celebration, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. What will solve the problem of the church is for you to come to church and join efforts with the General overseer to get things done”, Amaechi noted.
Also speaking, the General Overseer of the Liberation Power Ministries, General Odede Stephen recalled that on November 24, 1996, “God called him to set up the church” which today has impacted positively on members and other worshippers in the church.
He also said, “The Liberation Power Ministries has delivered hundreds of people, and the giant strides of the church has yielded over 32 church branches in and outside the country. And as part of our 17th Anniversary Celebration, one hundred (100) widows have been empowered by the church. I am also going to present three (3) Christian religious books. The content of the books are in line with my calling. “It is not by might or power but by my Grace, says the Lord”, General Odede said.
