Union Laments Closure Of Firms
The Chemical and Non-
Metallic Products Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (CANMPSSAN) has bemoaned the closure of over 15 companies leading to the sack of over 15,000 of its members within the chemical and non metallic industry sector of the economy in the past one year.
The national president of union, Comrade Mohammed Abdul Gafar stated this in a communiqué issued by the union from its national secretariat Lagos.
The union president said the industrial sector was not collapsing, despite the fact that most of the closed industries were being taken over by religious organizations.
Mohammed said the union was helpless as the trend takes a toll on its membership throughout the country, stressing that the union was exploring other investment opportunities to complement its check –off dues and strengthen its activities.
The communiqué said the union’s reliance on check-off dues from its members was no longer sustainable because of the disturbing rate of industry closures.
The labour leader said the union had concluded arrangement to venture into hospitality business, stock trading and other product investments that would give the union requisite financial resource to fund its activities.
The union president urged the federal government to consider the necessity of re-evaluating its industrial policies with a view of fixing infrastructure deficit.
He called on the relevant agencies to grant at least five years waivers to industries within the sector.
