Traditional Wrestling Council Drums Support For Sport
The Captain, Traditional
Wrestling Council of Nigeria (COCOWA), Miebi Bioko, has appealed to government and corporate organisations to support the body, to enable it to execute its programmes.
Bioko told newsmen in Lagos that lack of support from these sectors had affected the development and the level of awareness of the sport in the country.
“We need to reposition this sport because it will also assist youths to engage in meaningful pursuits.
“The country has lots of potentials in wrestling and if the sport was made attractive, idle and restive youths could make careers out of it.
“The development of sports is a collective effort, so I urge everybody to put heads together so that we can actualise the vision for the nation,” he said
Bioko also emphasised the need for the sport to be given the required awareness through adequate publicity to enhance its popularise.
“Publicity is the only key to create awareness for wrestling, as most people are not aware of its existence as a sport and this is what we are clamouring for,’’ he said.
According to him, traditional wrestling has long been in existence before the introduction of other disciplines like football.
