Stakeholder Wants Global Policies For Post Offices
The Federal Govern
ment has been charged to adopt some global policies that would guarantee the growth of post offices in the country.
A top management officer at the NIPOST Territory Head Quarters, Port Harcourt, who chose to be anonymous, told our reporter Tuesday, in Port Harcourt, that some government policies are affecting post growth in the nation.
He said that some of the practices in Nigerian postal system are no longer used in any part of the world, thereby, making it to be handicapped in modern post service.
According to him, if the federal government could adjust its policies as it regards post service, letters and other parcels may be delivered within 24 hours.
The top NIPOST Officer, maintained that Nigeria has all it takes to operate the best postal system in the world, but regretted that those in authority are not bothered about the decay in the system.
He said that countries like Britain and Germany have an excellent postal system that have brought many good returns to its people and government.
He pointed out that some countries even allowed its postal service to handle all its printing jobs including currencies in order to keep the post alive.
Furthermore, he tasked the federal government on the urgent need to revive the postal system of the country, hinting that each local government area ought to have a flourishing post office.
He also reasoned that post alone, could handle the issue of unemployment in the country, if adequate attention was paid to it.
However, he has called on the federal lawmakers to include the issue of postal growth in Nigeria in most of the debates so as to speedy the much expected change in the system.
