Rotary Club Earmarks N2m For Medical Outreach

Harcourt District 9140 has earmarked the sum of N2 million for a free medical outreach at Azuabie, Elekahia and Oginigba in the Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Area respectively.
The President of the Club, Rotarian Chidi Ikeji who disclosed this at the International Night and Fund raising ceremony on Monday in Port Harcourt said medical equipment such as incumbators will be donated to check the rate of infant mortality in the area.
Rotarian Ikeji also said the club is not relenting in its campaign against the eradication of polio in the society stating that the club intends to execute a water and sanitation project at the Elekahia and Rumuomasi Markets.
“We shall provide them with boreholes, overhead tank stand and tanks, generators, minimum of five functional toilets for adults and children”, he said.
The Rotary President said that the club had carried out a needs assessment in these markets and confirmed that, these facilities are lacking as children and the market users do not have conveniences and were constrained to use the same environment where food stuff and other articles were sold.
Speaking on the importance of the celebration, Rotarian Ikeji said that International Night was adopted by the Club worldwide to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
“The International Night and Fund Raising event of our club is therefore being celebrated in the Rotary Foundation month”, he said.
He used the occasion to call for donations to enable the club discharge its responsibility to humanity.
Speaking on the topic: “Why Give to Rotary/Rotary Foundation” the District Governor-Nominee, Rotarian Ijeoma Okoro said that the Club is in dire need of funds to advance world peace, and fight infant mortality and provide basic amenities to conflict areas.
