Rivers State boxers preparing for the forthcoming National U-17 Youth Sports Festival on December 5 have assured fans in the state that they would not disappoint them.

Speaking to Tidesports in Port Harcourt yesterday, Chief Boxing Coach, Boma Douglas expressed optimism on the ability of boxers  preparing for the youth festival.

According to him, the athletes, both male and female would come back from the festival with at least three gold medals each.

He said that eighteen boxers made up of ten girls and eight boys were picked to represent the state at the forthcoming National Youth Sports Festival.

He further disclosed that the boxers were selected from the streets of Port Harcourt while few participated in the last year’s school sports, hosted in Port Harcourt.

Boma said that, even though the boxers have deliberately refused to slow their intensity in training, he would want to remind stakeholders and lovers of the game that, the state would made them proud.

He said the boxers lack some training equipment that would help them win laurels for the state in local and international meets.

The Chief Coach further disclosed that, the senior boxers are also intensifying training towards the national sports festival, coming up in Calabar next year.
