NLC Partners Firm On Workers’ Housing Project
The Nigeria Labour
Congress (NLC), has partnered a private firm, Kriston Lally, to execute the workers 600,000 housing project estimated to cost N960 billion.
In a statement, the union’s National President, Comrade Abdul Waheed Omar said the housing units for Nigerian workers would be launched by President Goodluck Jonathan in January, 2014. Omar said the union would never enter into an alliance that would tarnish its image and crediability.
He assured the subscribers of the housing scheme of the security of their 10 percent deposit contribution.
The labour leader said that the construction of the first phase of the housing project would commence in the second week of December 2013.
He said the project was being funded by Ati-Kat Athens Greece in partnership with the labour union.
He said the partnership is about providing quality and affordable housing for Nigerian workers.
The union leader reiterated the NLC commitment to as much as possible pave the way for workers to own house before they retire as shelter remains a big challenge in Nigeria.
