Lawmaker Hails Amaechi’s Business Day Award
A federal lawmaker
representing Okrika/Ogu/Bolo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Gogo Bright, has described the honour on the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi by Business Day newspaper as well deserved.
Hon Bright stated this last Tuesday, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in an interview with aviation correspondents.
The federal lawmaker opined that Governor Amaechi deserved whatever honour that was bestowed on him for delivering the dividends of democracy having performed creditably.
Hon Bright opined that in spite of the political distractions, the governor had continued to perform his leadership role in the state impressively.
“If there is a governor that is performing in Nigeria, Governor Amaechi is the one, there are physical things on ground and so whatever award bestowed on him is justified”, he declared.
On the disagreement of the House of Representatives towards the 2014 budget presentation, the lawmaker said the House insisted that the provisions of the law be complied with in the consideration of the medium term expenditure framework.
He noted that medium term expenditure framework was usually sent in advance to the National Assembly before the budget presentation because it was the basis upon which the benchmark was determined.
According to him, since the medium term expenditure framework had not been passed, there was no need of rushing the budget presentation as it is a matter of law and not sentiment.
On the disagreement in oil benchmark, Hon Bright said the House adopted $76.5 per barrel of oil as the benchmark, noting that at the end of the day, the National Assembly would harmonise before the budget was passed.
