‘Junior League Players Will Dominate U-17’
Technical Director, Lagos
Junior League (J-League), Tunde Disu, has expressed optimism that players produced by the league would henceforth dominate the U-17 national team – Golden Eaglets.
Disu expressed the hope in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
He said that the outstanding performances of J-League players – Taiwo Awoniyi, Jide Idowu and Dele Alampasu – in the just-concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup would inspire other J-League players.
Awoniyi, Idowu and Alampasu were in the Golden Eaglets squad that won the cup in the United Arab Emirates.
‘ ‘I am very proud of the boys; they are good ambassadors of the three-year-old league.
“Their contributions to the success story of the Eaglets is worthy of commendation,” Disu said.
According to him, a player is a product of quality training and good attention which start far from national team setting or mammoth training camps.
“It starts in the hood, on streets or, as expected, in an organised setting like the J-League,” he said.
The technical director expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for providing an avenue for such talents to be harnessed.
