The Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State said it would collaborate with the state vigilante group in the fight against security challenges in the state.
The NSCDC Commandant, Mr Ben Dikuro, made the pledge when he received members of the Abia State Vigilance Group Advisory Committee in Umuahia recently.
Dikuro said the corps would partner with the group in the area of intelligence gathering and protection of public utilities.
He commended the group for its operation in the state, which he said, had complemented the efforts of security agencies.
“We have worked with members of the state vigilance group and I must state that you have committed personnel that are capable of fighting crime in the state,’’ he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Chief Udeka Onuoha, said the visit to security agencies was to foster ways of providing adequate security in the state.
Onuoha, a former Commissioner of Police, commended the corps for being the only security agency that was represented in the advisory committee.
According to him, the law establishing the Abia State Vigilance Group made it clear that all security outfits in the state must be represented in the advisory committee.
“Their membership will help in checking the activities of the group and caution the members when the need arises,’’ he said.
The chairman, however, urged other agencies to be part of the committee in the interest of peace and security of the state.
