Fashola Assures Street Sweepers Of Protection
The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has promised to protect street sweepers in the performance of their duties.
Gov. Fashola who stated this recently at the 2013 street sweepers workshop themed “Cleaner Environment: A New Way of Life, said the choice of the theme was in tandem with the state’s government’s support to a clean environment.
He told the sweepers that their demands would be met so long as they perform their duties creditably well.
“When you dispose your waste properly, you indirectly contribute to the beautification of your environment which can also be attained by planting of trees or flowers to ensure fresh air circulation.
While calling on Lagosians to discontinue the practice of hanging their washed cloths on verandas and balconies of major streets the governor revealed that plans were underway to clean every highway in the state.
Also speaking, the commissioner for environment, Mr. Junji Bello said the programme had achieved the desired goal it was set for even as he added that government’s passion for a cleaner environment in the state was of high priority.
