The 2013 edition of the
Rivers State Government’s annual discount market, has taken a different dimension as telecommunications dealers plan to storm Port Harcourt on Sunday.
This was gathered by our reporter, while interacting with some telecommunication dealers at the GSM village on Aba-Port Harcourt expressway in Port Harcourt Wednesday.
They said that they are determined to participate in the “show” if they would be provided with a level playing field.
According to them, telecom products are the best to sell at such market organisation.
One of the dealers, Mrs Eunice Ajatunmo, said that if their plans scale through, they may be introducing some new products from their international partners.
She explained that products like laptop ought to be sold at an affordable price in Nigeria, but attributed its current high price to high cost of rent.
Ajatunmo, was of the view that, if government at all levels could provide places like the discount market, dealers would be willing to sell at very friendly prices.
She further told our reporter that what counts in business is its rate of turnover, saying that fixing a very high price tag to any product is not the best way to do business.
Our correspondent also gathered that some cellphone dealers at Aba and other areas are planning to grace this year’s edition of the Port Harcourt discount market.
Earlier, they had pleaded with the state government not to allow the period to be interrupted by any major government function.
