Counsel Commends Lagos Over Judicial Reforms
A Lagos State based legal practitioner, Barr. Abraham Jande has commended the Lagos State Judiciary for being a pacesetter in Judicial reforms.
Barr. Jande, who spoke with The Tide in a telephone chat at the weekend described the Lagos State judiciary as the fastest growing in the Nigerian nation-state.
He said some of the statutes of general applicable which were obsolete had been repealed in Lagos, but regretted some of those laws were still in use in some parts of Nigeria.
The Lagos lawyer said that law reforms should be regular so that obsolete and anachronistic legislations could be checked.
He also praised the Lagos State Judiciary for the current criminal Justice Administration Code which has helped to facilitate access to justice.
Jande noted that it was pathetic that some received English laws which had been repealed in England were still in use in some states in Nigeria.
The Lagos lawyer stated that there should be a deliberate plan to facilitate access to justice.
According to him, Justice delayed is justice denied.
He expressed regrets on the glut of cases in some state judiciaries and urged states to make use of the frontloading system.
Barr. Jande also decried the average life of cases in Nigerian courts and urged all to support better justice delivery.
He also praised Abuja for keeping pace with current trends in Justice delivery.
