Community Charges Chevron On Unemployment

The people of Kula in
Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State have called on the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to provide a separate employment scheme for youths in Kula community as a measure to alleviate the high level of unemployment in Kula, and other oil producing communities.
Chairman of the Kula Regional Development Committee, Hon. Stanley Benibo made the call Wednesday in Port Harcourt, during the 3rd annual general meeting of the committee, in line with the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) signed between NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture and communities in its area of operation.
Benibo who thanked Chevron for its commitment to the GMoU process also assured that the fund voted into the process by Chevron would be utilized to contribute meaningfully to the improvement of the standard of living of the people.
He further disclosed that the RDC will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders and agencies to achieve the objective of the GMoU process through the principles of Transparency and Accountability.
In its remark, the management of Chevron, represented by the General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs (PGPA), Mr. Deji Haastrup, assured the commitment  of Chevron towards the implementation of the GMoU process, as a community engagement model.
Haastrup who was represented by the GMoU Cordinator of Chevron, George Kuwa, said beyond infrastructural development in the communities the GMoU process is built on best standard geared towards sustainable development.
