Head Coach, Rivers
Hockey Association (RHA), Collins Iheanyi, has urged the Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) to introduce well structured programmes that would reposition the sport in the country.
Iheanyi told newsmen  in Lagos that the stagnation that had pervaded the sport in recent times was due to the absence of viable development programmes.
He stressed that it was only through a structured programme that the progress of budding talents could be monitored to fruition.
“The problem is that they need to go back to the grassroots. I mean a structured programme such that there will be Under-12 tournament, there will be Under-17.
“Now, if I get to other tournaments and you see that I am consistent in my performance, I can now move on to the national side.
“That is one of the things we are lacking. We should be able to have a structured plan.
The coach also urged state hockey associations to complement the efforts of the NHF in promoting the sport at the grassroots through regular talents discovery programmes in schools.
