Church Honours 100 Members For Steadfastness

About 100 members of the
Assemblies of God Church, Mile I, King Cathedral have been conferred with awards of honour over their faithfulness in the service of God and outstanding contributions to the development of the church.
The celebrants mostly senior citizens within the ages of 60 and above were conferred with certificates of meritorious service in recognition of their long term service to the church, by the youth ministry and the church management, at the church auditorium.
Speaking as a special guest at the event, the District Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church Nigeria, Rivers District, Rev Daddy Ibulubo said the celebration was in line with biblical injunction, noting that the elders deserves to be celebrated at old age.
Rev Ibulubo admonished the celebrants to live exemplary lives as senior citizens and plan well for their retirement from active service to avoid been nuisance to society, stressing that old age was a blessing from God.
Rev Ibulubo who commended the youth ministry in the church for organising the programme, called on the youths to manage their youthful age well to attract a more rewarding and fulfilling old age.
Earlier in his opening remark the senior pastor in charge of the church, Rev Chigozirim Amadi had congratulated the awardees, stating that the gesture was to spur them towards greater service to the church.
He described the elders as ambassadors of the church and urged them to use their wealth of experience in the service of God to impact on the younger generation.
In his remark, the guest speaker, Rev Christopher Chidobe Amadi, described the event as remarkable and a mark of encouragement to the elders.
Rev Amadi spoke on behalf of other awardees, said old age was a rare promise from God to this obedient service. He however cautioned the elders to manage their old age effectively, noting that old age without peace was a course.
He said elders should share their mistakes and other life experiences with their children to avert negative consequences. Some of the award recipients who spoke with The Tide expressed gratitude to God and the church over the honour.
An honouree, Mrs Evlyn West, said the award will encourage her to serve God and the church better. The secretary of the church, Isineal Awon, expressed gratitude to the church over the honour, noting that it would stimulate greater service from the recipients
