Chime Assures On Confab
Governor Sullivan Chime
of Enugu State has applauded the proposed national conference, saying it is capable of promoting unity among Nigerians.
Chime gave the commendation when the National Dialogue Advisory Committee paid him a courtesy visit in Enugu.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Amechi Okolo, the governor said that his administration was committed to effort toward ensuring peaceful and fruitful national dialogue.
“We applaud the essence of this exercise because we know it will justify the continued unity of our country,” Chime said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Dr Femi Okunroumu, said that the committee was in the state for the process of consultation with all Nigerians.
Okunroumu said that the visit would enable the committee discuss the mode of operations for the conference with people of the state.
He said that the committee was mandated to ensure that the outcome of the dialogue was people- oriented.
He said the committee was given the mandate to discuss all issues on the minds of the people.
“These range from how large the people expects the conference membership to be and how they want delegates to be chosen”.
He recalled that in the past, government used to choose delegates for conferences, but that it would not be business as usual.
“The committee is here today for the process of consultations to discuss the mode of operation for the conference.
“Such consultations are necessary because the president wants it to emanate from the people and not to be imposed on them.
“The president also wants to show convincing evidence that he has no hidden agenda, rather, he has the interest of the people at heart,” he said.
