Brazil 2014: Fans Task Eagles On Preparation
As Nigeria’s Super Eagles prepare set for the Brazil 2014 World Cup, football fans in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital have urged Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other relevant bodies to start adequate preparation to enable the team meet the standard of a World Cup squad.
Some of the fans who spoke in an exclusive interview with Tidesport in Port Harcourt, yesterday noted that the call was imperative following disjointed play by Eagles in the second leg match of the qualifier at Calabar, Cross Rivers State, last Saturday.
The Eagles beat Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia 2-0 to have a 4-1 aggregate win to qualify for 2014 World cup in Brazil.
Head Coach of Rivers State Football Association, Tony Chuku said that the qualification marked the beginning of the tourney for the team.
“My advise to the players is for them to be articulate and organized with the experience they have so far in the qualifying series. They should always exhibit team spirit and resilience in their matches.”
Chuku insisted that a player should always utilise the merit of his position, pointing out that the Eagles mid-field collapsed and lacked cohesion during the Ethiopia game.
Representative of Real Club Deportive Espanyol, Stanly Wariso said that Eagles were out of form during the Ethiopia match. He said that now that the team has qualified, efforts should be geared towards ensuring proper preparation if the Eagles are to succeed at the world cup proper.
Chief D. T. West said the team’s performance during the match did not portray them as a strong side to face better teams.
He expressed fear over the ability of Super Eagles to withstand stronger teams during the world cup game.
“Now that we have qualified, it is now left for NFF to do all that is necessary to ensure that the team gets better before the World Cup begins, he said.
Chime Nwankwo, a timber dealer said that the attacking force of the team should be strengthened ahead of the World Cup.
He urged Coach Stephen Keshi to organize more friendly matches with quality teams adding that Eagles’ game with Italy has gone a long way to exposing Eagles side to a better team.
Chike Okenwa, a building materials dealer and soccer fan was of the view that NFF should liaise with the technical crew to put finishing touches to their preparation strategy.
He also advocated for more friendly matches with better teams, while urging Eagles players to tackle the weaknesses in the team ahead of the World Cup.
Author Jumbo, a Bonny based soccer analyst, said Eagles rode on mother luck to get the World Cup ticket while Wokoma Prudence said Eagles improved tremendously during the friendly game against Italy on Monday, adding that it was contrary to their outing against Ethiopia.
