A socio-cultural
organisation, the Council of Orashi Ethnic Nationalities (COEN) has condemned some statements by the chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Rivers State, Felix Obuah over utterances inimical to peace and unity in the State.
The group in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Eze Frank noted that statements credited to Felix Obuah in recent times had shown that he was reaping from crisis in Rivers State.
It lamented that instead of pursuing the path of unity and peace in the state, the PDP Chairman has remained in the vanguard of ensuring that moves to destabilize the state persist.
While emphasizing that Orashi people are promoters of peace, the statement said since Bro. Obuah has chosen to exhibit a non Orashi life style, the region has concluded plans to withdraw support from him.
The organization wondered why a chairman that expects his party to win elections in 2015 would fan actions capable of decimating support for President Jonathan in the state, saying, Obuah and his group have been deceiving the President.
”It is a pity that selfish interests have taken over the PDP in Rivers State. The attitude of the party presently, does not serve the interest of President Jonathan or Niger Delta region especially when Governor Amaechi they claimed to be fighting is gaining more popularity” the group said.
While acknowledging that the non implementation of UNEP report on Ogoni land has further reduced President Jonathan’s popularity, the council said: “it will be wrong on the part of the federal government not to implement the report especially now that a Niger Delta son who benefited from the struggles of Ogoni patriots like Ken Saro Wiwa and others is at the helm of affairs”.
