The Anambra State
Government has warned fake revenue collectors to desist from extorting money from residents of the State.
The State Commissioner for Information, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, gave the warning at a news conference on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Awka recently.
Uzodike also warned the state traffic agency against extorting money from motorcycle and tricycle riders, motorists and traders.
“We have received reports that people put on Gov. Peter Obi’s picture on aprons to extort money from people.
“Government hereby warns these touts and miscreants to henceforth desist from the unlawful act as anyone caught still engaging in this illegality will be made to face the wrath of the law’’, he said.
The commissioner also said state government received information that a certain political party was inciting students of former Anambra State University to oppose its new name of Chukwuemeka Ojukwu University
According to him, the state government cannot fold its hands and allow agents of destabilisation to disrupt the peace and progress of the university.
Uzodike commended Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia for recalling Anambra indigenes that were disengaged from Abia State Civil Service.
The commissioner said the action demonstrated the brotherly relationship existing among the South-East states and urged all those affected by the disengagement to return to work immediately.
