Abe Explains Support For Amaechi
Senator representing
Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Magnus Abe has explained why he has continued to support Governor Chibuike Amaechi despite his political travails.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt during the presentation of stipends to Law Schools students, Abe said Governor Amaechi’s quest to develop the educational sector was one factor why he has stuck with him, adding that education remains one path to the development of any nation or country.
In his words: “I continue to stand with the governor of Rivers State, because what he has put on ground for education would keep Rivers State in a height that in the next 20 years, we would not even look like part of Nigeria”.
He decried the state of the education sector, but observed that Amaechi has set a standard for Rivers State, by investing in ICT, infrastructure , in teachers “and in everything that shows that this is a government that is conscious of the future of the state, and that is why I would continue to support him”, he said.
The Senator opined that every Nigerian should be concerned over the current decay in the sector, pointing out that education is not the responsibility of parents alone.
The senator pleaded on the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) to suspend its for month old strike to pave way for further negotiations and agreement.
