Perm Sec Urges Collaboration In Cultural Dev

The Permanent Secretary
of the Rivers State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Grace Akpughunum has canvassed a collaborative effort in the development and sustenance of the diverse cultural potentials and heritage of the people of Rivers State.
The Permanent Secretary gave the urge while speaking as a Special Guest of honour at an Art Exhibition organized by the Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Rivers State indigenous Visual Artists, at the Agbani Darego Complex, Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Declaring the maiden Art Exhibition, tagged “which way” open, the Permanent Secretary who described Art as “life”, said she was impressed with the artistic works at the exhibition, and called on all stakeholders in the industry “to make meaningful imputs and investment in cultural development in the state.
Speaking in an interview with the Tide, the Executive Director, Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture, Mr. Deede Baede, described Rivers State as a home of culture given the diverse cultural background of Rivers people.
The Director who also described culture as an alternative to oil, said the vision was to stimulate a striving growth in cultural development in the state, through a holistic approach involving the imputs of indigenous artists.
He stated that the Rivers State Council for Arts and Culture, was poised to maintain its leading role in cultural development in Nigeria, and solicited support from corporate organizations and well meaning individuals to keep the dream afloat.
The Director also called for early release of funds to enable the council prepare ahead of competitive events.
Also speaking, the President of Rivers State Indigenous Visual Artists, Pastor Patrick Aduari Jumbo, said the association was determined to complement government effort.
