Mr. Noggie Megison has said that there are over 200 jobless pilots in the aviation sector, describing the situation as alarming.
Mr. Megison made this known recently when he paid a courtesy visit on the Director General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr. Fola Akinkuotu in Lagos.
The NPP President who is also an airline indigenous pilot in the aviation sector has become horrible, and urged NCAA to move fast to halt the trend.
“We have private and government sponsored individuals coming from around the world. We are many and among us are those that are out of school for two to three years and have not been working”, Megison said.
He also explained that the body was faced with numerous challenges, which he said the visit provided the platform to discuss with the NCAA management.
Responding the Director General of NCAA Mr. Akinkuotu, sympathised with the union and commended the leadership for the bold steps taken to bring the case to the regulatory body, noting however, that unemployment is a global concern and the Nigerian situation is not an isolated case.
Mr. Akinkuotu reminded the body that having a qualified licence is not enough guarantee for employment and therefore urged them to continuously improve themselves by gathering experience until they are employed.
He also tasked them to remain focused and promised that soon there would be plans to reduce unemployment among the pilots by introducing new laws that would make it mandatory for airlines to hire local pilots.
