A Lagos-based nutri
tionist, Dr Jane Eleodi, has attributed the poor food distribution pattern in the country, to lack of good access roads linking rural communities and inadequacy of reliable storage facilities .
Eleodi told newsmen in Lagos recently that the country had varieties of food items to go round, yet some parts of the country experienced scarcity of particular food items.
“ We produce enough food to go round in our country; the problem the country is experiencing is poor management of food produced by hard working farmers
“When we go to some places like the South-South region and the Middle Belt of our country, food items are wasted due to lack of reliable storage facilities and means of transportation.
“The relevant authorities should make adequate arrangement to provide food storage facilities, to avoid food wastage” she said.
The Nutritionist also observed that socio-political crises in some parts of the country, were affecting prices of commodities.
She said that due to insecurity and hike in prices of food stuff, many people had been forced to adopt poor eating habits, which affected their health.
“We are expected to eat well nourished food, with all its nutrients, for proper growth of the body.
“The children are expected to eat balanced food, rich in protein, for proper growth and well being.
