NUPENG Wants Passage Of PIB

Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has called on the National Assembly to expedite action for the early passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) to ensure effective local content operations within the oil and gas sector of the economy.
The national president of the union, Comrade Igwe Achese made the call during the opening ceremony of the union 3rd Quadric General Meeting held at Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt yesterday.
Achese said the passage of the bill by the National Assembly was unnecessarily being delayed and called on members of the committee in the National Assembly to ensure holistic input from the major stakeholders within the oil and gas sector.
The union leader said the PIB will boost the oil and gas sector if pass by the National Assembly, and enhance development in the oil bearing communities of the Niger Delta region.
The president added that the relent disinvestment of International Oil Companies (IOC) will further promote the nation’s economy through direct participation of indigenous companies in the oil and gas sector.
He called on the management of multinational oil companies in Nigeria to give adequate attention to the issues of the welfare of the workers, stressing that the leadership of the union will never compromise on the issues of better working conditions of the union members.
On the issue of casualisation the union leader said the union is doing everything possible within the extant Labour Law of the country to ensure that casualisation is abolished within the oil industry.
He said the union is also  fighting to end the disparity, and inequality between the expatriate staff and Nigeria staff working within the oil and gas sector of the nation’s economy.
Achese further stated that the union with full compliance with the labour extant law of the country for better treatment of Nigerians. He assured the union members that the leadership of the union will promote issues bordering on their welfare and benefit with utmost good working conditions as obtainable elsewhere in the world.
Achese said the union will always partner with the multinational companies through dialogue for the overall interest of the oil and gas industry and the workers.
