NOA Sensitises Parents, Caregivers On Measles

National Orientation Agency, Rivers State, Mr. Oliver Wolugbom has called on parents, guardian and caregivers to make their children and wards available for the 2013 Integrated Measles campaign/immunisation exercise in all local government areas of the state.
Wolugbom who stated this while briefing the Chief Orientation and Mobilisation Officers (COMOs) of the 23 LGAs said the Rivers State Government through the Primary Health Care Management Board in conjunction with partner Agencies is implementing the 2013 Integrated Measles Campaigns in all local government areas of the state.
The programme is scheduled to commence from 2nd -6th November, 2013. According to a release by NOA’s head of press unit, Mrs. Margaret Banigo Wolugbom parents and caregivers are expected to take advantage of the opportunity to immunise their children and wards against measles and poliomyelitis.
During the exercise, measles and polio vaccines will be administered on all children 0-59 months (i.e. below 5 years of age) at the Health Centres and other designated temporary health posts nearest to them.
Also health personnel will go round the various communities to ensure infants are vaccinated. “The immunisation will be given to children irrespective of their previous immunisation status with the aim of protecting the children from measles and poliomyelitis pointing out that immunisation is free, safe and effective.
