NIPOST Plans More Outlets For Enugu, Ebonyi
The Nigerian Postal
Service (NIPOST) plans to establish more offices in Enugu and Ebonyi to bring postal services to the doorsteps of people, an official has said.
Speaking during the World Post Day celebration in Enugu on Wednesday, the Area Postal Manager of Enugu and Ebonyi, Mr. Simon Adoyi, said the service would also establish postal shops in areas without offices.
According to him, the move is in pursuance of the Universal Postal Union requirement for the establishment of postal units in densely-populated areas.
“NIPOST has keyed into the reformation agenda of the post by not only modernising but diversifying its products and services. “We have 41 post offices in some of the local governments in the two states. “In Enugu and Ebonyi, we have advanced progress to establish postal offices, agencies and shops in areas without any,” he said.
Adoyi said letter posts accounted for more than 45 per cent of the overall revenue of the service since 2012.
In a lecture, Dr Christopher Agalamanyi of the Department of Public Administration at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, urged NIPOST to increase the speed of mail delivery.
He said the service should expedite action in letter sorting to meet with the challenges of information and communications technology.
“NIPOST must keep up the speed at which mails are moving now from one point to another and ensure that no time is wasted in sorting and delivery of mails,’’ Agalamanyi said.
The don advised the service to guard its new operational secrets to avoid being copied by the other courier services.
“The mistakes of other courier services are your gains. You must not disclose your new improvement secrets to them,’’ he said.
