Nigeria Needs More Amaechis -Dele Momodu
Presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party(NCP) in the 2011 presidential elections, Dele Momodu says the development strides of Governor Chibuike Amaechi in Rivers State need to be replicated all over the country.
Speaking last Wednesday shortly after he took a tour of some of the projects initiated and completed by Amaechi’s administration across the state, the publisher submitted that the governor had laid foundation for a new Rivers State and prayed for a successor to continue in the same light.
Momodu said contrary to views in some quarters that Amaechi’s achievements were media creation and propaganda, he had come to confirm things first hand.
He said, “ If we have more Amaechis in Nigeria, I’am sure we would have done better than what we are doing at the moment. And I will appeal to the Federal Government in particular to support this gentleman who is trying his best in the state. So let’s forget about politics ‘’.
The publisher said he was impressed with the governor’s achievements especially in education, “ one of the things that strikes me most is education. For me, education is everything. Without education, I won’t be standing here. I was not born rich. I grew up in the ancient city of Ile-Ife. I was once a village teacher’’.
He regretted that the standard of education had fallen in the country but praised the governor for setting new standards with the new model primary and secondary schools in the state, adding, “ I don’t think there are university structures that are more beautiful than the Model Priamry and Secondary Schools. And as I told him pictures don’t lie and I have taken pictures with my ipad ‘’.
The former NCP presidential candidate equally praised Governor Amaechi for the roads and other infrastructure put in place, saying, “ I came down to see these roads and I can’t imagine the level of ambition because it takes serious ambition to do that.’’
Momodu therefore appealed to politicians in the country to come borrow a leaf from Rivers State, maintaining that he would support anyone who was working hard to change Nigeria for the better.
