The Muslim Lawyers
Association of Nigeria (MULAN), Lagos chapter, has urged Nigerian leaders to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice for the good of the nation.
Mr Mussodiq Sanni, chairman of the chapter, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
Sanni said the lessons of obedience and sacrifice exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim which led to the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir should be emulated by Nigerian leaders.
He said: “The leaders of the people should know what the people want and they should be ready to make sacrifices.
“When you are elected into office, you should leave your own selfish interest and focus on the interest of the masses.
“That is the type of sacrifice that the office demands. Provision of good roads, healthcare facilities, schools and other infrastructure.”
According to him, Nigeria is blessed with abundant human and natural resources which can be used for the benefit of the people.
Sanni commended President Goodluck Jonathan for backing the convocation of a national conference to address the challenges being faced by the country.
“I am happy that the President has accepted what the people want.
“That shows that he has learnt from Prophet Ibrahim that a leader needs to do what the people want and what is good for the whole nation,” he said.
Meanwhile, a Lagos State Lawmaker, Mr Bisi Yusuf, on Tuesday urged motorists to drive safely during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Yusuf (APC-Alimosho I), also the chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Industry, told our correspondent  in Lagos that both the private and commercial drivers should obey the state traffic rules and regulations.
“I appeal to the commuters, especially the commercial bus drivers, to drive safely and be conscious of traffic signs on the roads.
“You should not drink if you must drive, so as to protect your life and that of your passengers,” he said.
Yusuf also urged motorists not to drive against traffic and give way to pedestrians.
He noted that officials of the Lagos Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) had been deployed to monitor traffic during the festive period.
“There is a law that takes care of defiance, despite the civic approach of the trained LASTMA officials.
“But, I can assure you that the state government had prepared very well for the festive period, however, drivers should also be cautions to avoid casualties,” he said.
