Man, 25, Remanded In Custody For Cult Activities

Magistrate Court presided over by Emmanuel C. Woke has remanded a 25 year old man for an alleged secret cult activities and other criminal offences.
The accused person, Clinton George, 25, is standing trail on two count charge on conspiracy and cultism before E.C. Woke on charge Number PMC/1865c/2013.
The Police Prosecution told the court that the accused person and others now at large on the 15th of August 2013 at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire among themselves to commit felony to wit: secret cult activities.
The prosecution further told the court that the accused persons on the same place and date within the jurisdiction of the court did participate in secret cult activities known as Mafian group and caused mayhem in the area.
The prosecution alleged that the accused persons committed an offence punishable under section 10 (1) and 1 (1) of the secret cult and similar activities prohibited laws No. 6 of Rivers State.
The accused was not allowed to take his plea on the charge brought against him in the court.
In his ruling, the Presiding Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel C. Woke, declared that his court lacks the jurisdiction to trial the matter and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
The presiding chief magistrate further ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case to the 29th of November, 2013 for DPP’s advice.
