LMC Praises League Sponsorship Resolution
The League
Management Company (LMC) has described the resolution of the title sponsorship of the on-going 2012/2013 Globacom Premier League as a great relief.
LMC Secretary, Tunji Babalola, told newsmen that before the resolution, the absence of a sponsor had been a major headache for the authority.
“Resolving the issue of the absence of a title sponsor had been a major headache for the league authority.
“Infact, the major achievement of the body this season was the resolution of the league’s title sponsorship,” he said.
It would be recalled that the league had been without a title sponsor since 2010, following a sponsorship tussle between two telecommunications companies, Globacom and MTN Nigeria.
The bidding dispute eventually ended up at the Federal High Court, for the past three years, we have been running the league without a sponsor.
“Kudos to the LMC for bringing some innovation, now that we have got a title sponsor, we are still on the lookout for more potential sponsors,” Babaloloa said.
The secretary, however, advised the various clubs in the league to also scout for sponsors on their own, to augment whatever funds that were being disbursed by the LMC.
“We always encourage club managers to scout for their personal sponsors, in order to be able to fulfill their financial obligations to their players and officials,” he added.
On his assessment of officiating, the secretary said that match officials should be commended for ensuring that matches were now being officiated without fear or favour.
“I think it’s only fair that we appreciate the efforts of our match officials, once in a while, there are human errors, but in all, they have fare well, this season.
“This season, we recorded more away victories and to a large extent, we have been able to manage or curb spectator restiveness which stems from unfair officiating,” Babalola said.
He added that the body was determined to improve on its present achievements, next season.
