LG Assures On Youth Involvement In Agric
The Director of Agricul
ture in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Prince Charles Kadeh Birabi, has re-stated the commitment of the Khana Local Government authorities towards the active engagement of youths in the area in intensive agricultural activities.
The Director who spoke with The Tide at the Isacc Boro Park Port Harcourt, recently during the 2013 edition of the World Food Day, said the council was presently embarking on massive mobilisation of youths to engage in profitable agricultural activities to boost self employment in the area.
He pointed out that Khana Local Government area was blessed with arable land suitable for agriculture, and emphasised that the best way to empower the majority of the youths functionally was to fully utilise the comparative advantage of the natural disposition of the area.
The director said, the council was presently liaising with the various government agencies, such as the Agricultural Development Programme among others to make the Youths Agricultural project a holistic programme.
He added that there was ongoing registration of all farmers in the area, for proper monitoring and evaluation of agricultural activities, and called on local farmers to take advantage of government programme to enhance their productivity.
On the FADAMA III, project, the director, hinted that the council had complied up to 75% in terms of counterpart funding, while plans were ongoing to properly utilise the opportunities provided for the benefit of farmers in the area.
