Lagos Ready To Host 2013 NSSF
The Nigeria School
Sports Federation (NSSF) has said the 2013 edition of the All-Nigeria School Sports Festival may be hosted by the Lagos State Government.
NSSF’s President, Ibrahim Mohammed who disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos however added that discussions were still ongoing on the proposed hosting by Lagos.
Akwa Ibom was earlier tipped as a possible host for the fiesta hitherto scheduled to hold in November, but it later pulled out of the arrangement.
“We are yet to pick a date for the commencement of the festival, since Akwa Ibom are no longer hosting. But we are now looking at Lagos as new hosts.
“We believe that with support from all quarters we will be able to put together a great competition,’’ Mohammed said.
The NSSF president urged the Sports Minister, Bolaji Abdullahi, to keep to the promise he earlier made to support the federation’s programmes and on the issue of hosting the festival.
“We are waiting on the minister’s promise. Also, we have not been able to make contact with other states, apart from Oyo State and Akwa Ibom.
“Initially, Akwa Ibom thought it would be able to host, but from all indications, that would not be possible as it has stepped back.
“But the sports minister had promised the NSSF that he would come to our rescue if we are unable to find a state which will host the event.
“So, now, we are waiting for the minister to fulfill his promise,’’ Mohammed said.
