Kick-boxing Coach Tasks Instructors On Foreign Exposure

The National Coach,
Kick-Boxing Federation of Nigeria (KBFN), Cletus Okagbe, has in Lagos urged the sport’s coaches to attend international seminars to adequately enrich their knowledge.
Okagbe told newsmen that participation in refresher seminars organised by the Confederation of Africa Kick-Boxing (CAKB) was essential for coaches’ improvement.
“Instructors are expected to be rich and conversant with the sport’s current technical rules as they emanate from the CAKB. It is the only way to tap from the latest knowledge.
“When you know your onions, you will be able to bring up athletes in the right direction, and this will manifest in their performance during national or international contests.
“Our athletes are capable of excelling at international competitions, if only they can get a high per cent of modern technical input from the coaches that train them,’’ he said.
Okagbe said national seminars were good but CAKB seminars were paramount, as such seminars were handled by resource persons with a better wealth of knowledge of the sport.
He said the issue of unfair officiating would also be avoided during competitions because both the athletes and games officials would have been familiar with the fighting guidelines.
“When everyone is up-to-date with the requirements, we will have free and fair competitions as athletes are expected to have been thoroughly trained beforehand,’’ the coach said.
He said the move would assist other coaches to measure up with their contemporaries, adding that with this there would be no room for intimidation whenever they meet.
