Imo Plans Four Specialist Hospitals

The Imo State
Government last Monday said it would soon establish four specialist hospitals to cater for complex cases and ensure the efficiency of the healthcare delivery system in the state.
Gov. Rochas Okorocha announced this while inspecting ongoing construction work at the Owerri North New General Hospital in Naze, near Owerri.
He listed the hospitals to be established under this new arrangement to include the gynaecology, pediatrics, psychiatric and ophthalmology specialist hospitals.
“The aim is to ensure that the people of the state do not travel abroad again for medical services,’’ the governor said.
Okorocha said government would use some of the 27 new general hospitals under construction in the state for the hospitals.
“Health is wealth and my government attaches high premium to it. ‘We are planning to strengthen the health sector to avoid wastage of resources abroad. The old general hospitals can no longer stand the test of time, and this is why we have abandoned them,’’ he said.
The governor said people from other states would very soon be coming to Imo for medical care and that this would bring a lot of money for the state.
Okorocha said the new general hospitals at Owerri North, Ikeduru, Mbaitoli, Ideato South, Nkwerre, and Isiala Mbano have reached the advanced stage of completion and would soon be commissioned.
He expressed satisfaction with the contractors handling the projects and assured that efforts would be made to provide the new hospitals with modern equipment
