Illegal TIMARIV Car Dump Uncovered
A group known as Riv Peace, has alerted the public over the existence of an illegal park along Ada George road in Port Harcourt, where vehicles confiscated by TIMARIV officials are dumped for owners to pay outrageous fees before they can retrieve them.
President of the body, Mr. Success Ekperechi who disclosed this to The Tide, said the group got the hint from a tip off by a resident of the illegal car dump along location and Okiton bus stop by Ada George road.
The Tide investigation revealed that the site, which has several seized vehicles, is a private premises, with high wall fence, was discovered following the confiscation of a Toyota Corrolla vehicle owned by a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Dr. (Mrs) M.O. Ironkwe.
Mrs Ironkwe was said to have parked her vehicle at the premises of St. Francis Church, Rumuokwuta and went into the market only to come back and discovered that the vehicle had disappeared.
According to an eye witness, the woman slumped on the suspicion that the vehicle had been stolen only to find out later that it was removed by TIMARIV officials.
Reports have it that Mrs Ironkwe had lodged a complaint at the TIMARIV office at Eliparanwo, but was unable to find her vehicle .
Acting on a tip off, the search for the vehicle took her to the illegal park along Ada George where she was able to identify her vehicle among several other cars.
An official of TIMARIV who spoke with The Tide, on condition of anonymity denied that TIMARIV had another site along Ada George road, apart from their office at Eliparanwo.
He said the discovery of the illegal car was part of the shoddy deals and obnoxious practices within the rank and file of TIMARIV.
Narrating her ordeal, Dr. Uwaoma Ironkwe who is also a lecturer at the Rivers State University of science and Technology, decried the way civil law enforcement agents carry out their activities in the society.
Ironkwe who is also an Ex-military officer and a lawyer called on law enforcement agents to be carrying out their responsibilities with devotion.
Efforts to reach the Acting Comptroller General of TIMARIV, Mr. Confidence Eke was abortive as at the time of this report, as he did not pick his calls.
However, the Acting Controller General had earlier in a statement disclosed that TIMARIV would check illegal motor parks operating in Port Harcourt, as the mode of operations of the organization was being reviewed.
