HOS Decries Dearth Of Confidential Secretaries
The Head of the Civil Service
(HOS) of Rivers State, Barr Samuel LongJohn has decried the dearth of confidential secretaries in the state civil service.
Barr LongJohn stated this last Friday in Port Harcourt while declaring open the quadrennial delegates conference and send forth of retired comrades of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Civil Service Secretarial and Stenographic Workers (NUCSSASW).
Represented by the Director of Administration in the Establishment, Training and Pensions Bureau, Mr. Nnamdi Okpu, the Head of Service said the civil service is in dire need of confidential secretaries due to the high number of secretaries retiring from the service, noting that, of recent, his office had been inundated with requests for posting of confidential secretaries but the demands could not be met due to their depleting number.
He, however, said that something was being done to address the situation and advised typists seeking conversion to the position of secretaries to take advantage of the training programmes organised by his office in collaboration with the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori as well as that of the Staff Development Centre in the Establishment, Training and Pensions Bureau specifically designed for the training of secretaries.
The Head of Service, who lauded the pivotal role played by secretaries in the service, charged them to use the conference to deliberate on issues that would enhance their service delivery output and promised to look into their complaints on implementation of circulars and the use of Special Assistants as secretaries.
