FRSC Returns N.2m To Accident Victims

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ebonyi State has returned N215, 690 and other valuables to the families of road accident victims which occurred on September 14.

The Ivo Unit Commander of the commission, Mr Joseph Abuo, said that five GSM phones, a female handbag, a voice recorder and the money were recovered during the rescue exercise.

“After necessary dialogue with the Nigerian Police Ivo Division, the items were duly handed over to the representatives of the victims’ families,’’ he said.

According to him, 75 per cent of the accidents in the country are caused by human factors.

“Road users should, therefore, remember that we are now approaching the yuletide period that is occasioned with rush by drivers who want to cover trips at the shortest possible time.

“Drivers should be mindful of excesses like over speeding, wrong overtaking, seat belts violation, drunk-driving, among others,’’ he said.

Receiving the items, Mr Sam Ede, a representative of the deceased families, thanked the FRSC, the police and neighbours, for returning the items intact.

“This has shown that in spite of the notion that there are no longer sincere and God-fearing people in this country, many still exist, even in our midst,’’ Ede said.

It would be recalled that the accident, which involved an articulated vehicle and a Nissan Premiere car, occurred on September 14, at the Berger Junction on the Okigwe-Afikpo highway.

Five occupants of the car, two men and three women, died on the spot.
