Fire Destroys Drugs In Etche
Mysterious fire has
gutted drugs worth millions of naira at Umuka Mba in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State. Also burnt were clothings, other household items and cash.
The drugs are property of a humanitarian Health Organisation, Specialist Traditional China Medicine Diploma from Cameroon who have been on humanitarian assignment in Etche.
The Tide gathered that it was only the particular room occupied by the Cameroonian medical doctors in a building of many rooms that was affected.
The doctors who occupied the room had locked up the place and gone on field assignment when the incident took place. They returned later in the day to meet the unfortunate situation.
Our correspondent who visited the scene of incident report that public spirited persons were donating clothings, cash and other household items to the helpless Cameroonians who have contacted their home office for fund and drugs.
Meanwhile the indigenes suspected that wicked elemented might have broken into the room, stole drugs, cash and then set the room ablaze as a cover up.
An indigene who spoke to The Tide disclosed that the villagers had resorted to traditional means to unmak those behind the act while the Christians amongst them embarked on fasting and prayer.
The health organisation which is highly patronised by the people is said to have treated a lot of ailments affecting the people at highly subsidised cost. The organisation is said to have been operating in Etche for the past two months.
Effort to contact the Police Public Relations Office, Rivers State Command failed.
