The Falconets, Nigeria’s
under-20 women football team, will now play against their Sierra Leonean counterparts in the qualifiers for next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals in Canada.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Ademola Olajire, the Assistant Director (Media), at the Nigeria Football Association (NFA).
It said the fixture was in the first round of the African qualifying race for the competition.
“This is according to a letter from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and is as a result of the withdrawal of Burkina Faso from the race to Canada 2014,’’ the statement said.
It said the Falconets, who were already in a screening camp in Abuja, would host the first leg game at the Abuja National Stadium on October 26.
“The Falconets will play the second leg game in Freetown on November 9,’’ the statement said.
It added that CAF had already appointed Dayves Leopoldina from Guinea Bissau as Centre Referee for the match in Abuja.
“Her compatriots Amancio Deolinda and Gomes Antonio will act as Assistant Referee 1 and Assistant Referee 2 respectively.
“Fadouma Dia from Senegal will be the Reserve Referee, while Helena Williams from Ghana is the Match Commissioner,’’ the statement added.
