Fadama Employs 4,550 Ebonyi Indigenes
The Fadama III Project in
Ebonyi State has provided job opportunities for more than 4,550 indigenes of the state, the Project Coordinator, Dr Cletus Nwakpu, said recently.
Nwakpu told newsmen in Abakaliki that permanent and temporary jobs were provided for 1,050 and 3,500 indigenes respectively.
According to him, the permanent jobs comprise poultry, fisheries, piggery entrepreneurship and attendants, while the temporary jobs are for bricklayers and masons who work at project sites, among others.
He said:”1,300 out of the 1,402 sub-projects of the programme had been completed across the state; These have contributed to food security, job security and overall rural development.
“It has also generated income for the individuals, and helped in the overall enhancement of agriculture which the state is known for.’’
The coordinator noted that various Community User Associations across the state contributed over N200 million to implement more than 1,402 sub-projects and 138 activities since its inception.
“The projects include poultry, fisheries, garri/palm oil processing mills, road, and electricity projects.
“The activities include: implementation of community based procurement, record keeping, training on new improved technology, among others.
“Ebonyi was the first state in the country to launch the programme in 2008 and with the presentations we made and activities we embarked on,we still want to be part of its continued success.
“The project has gulped over N450 million in the state and it has enhanced agricultural activities,” he said.
