Ex-CP Canvasses Collaboration Among Security Agencies
A Retired Commissioner
of Police, Chief Udeka Onuoha, said effective collaboration among various security agencies was imperative for Nigeria to tackle current security challenges in the country.
Onuoha, who is Chairman, Abia Vigilance Advisory Committee (ASVG), said in an address at a seminar organised for unit heads of vigilance groups last Thursday in Umuahia, that for crime to be effectively tackled, security personnel must work in synergy and collaborate with members of the public in the area of information communication.
Onuoha said establishment of vigilance groups by Abia Government was a step in the right direction to boost security in the state.
“Abia is relatively peaceful and calm today because the governor had given adequate support to all security agencies, especially the members of Abia vigilance group who are at the grassroots,’’ he said.
He urged the members of the committee and the groups to always play by the rules and avoid any form of human rights abuse.
“The law establishing Abia vigilance group spelt-out roles to members and this must be strictly adhered to at all times,’’ he advised.
Onuoha announced that training and re-training would be held for members of the group, to boost their morale and equip them ahead of 2015 electioneering period.
He condemned the situation whereby some members of security organisations frustrated the efforts of the groups in combating crime in the state.
Earlier, Mr Martins Idika, the Commander-General, ASVG, said that the seminar was to educate unit heads of the reform currently taking place.
Idika said since the inauguration of the advisory committee, government expected positive change in the vigilance groups and urged members to always show commitment to their duties.
