Enugu Donates 10 Vehicles To Army, NSCDC
In a bid to stamp out
crime, Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State recently donated 10 security vehicles to the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigerian Air Force.
Chime who was represented at the ceremony by his Special Assistant on Security Matters, Mr Richard Chime said that the gesture was also aimed at retaining the glory of the state as the safest in the country, as announced by the Inspector- General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.
Responding, the Commander of the Nigerian Air Force Base, Enugu, Air Commodore Jacob Gbamwan, commended the governor for the continuous assistance to security agencies in the state to enable them to reduce crime in the state and assured that the vehicles would be put to adequate use to fight crime in the state.
In his speech, the Garrison Commander of the 82 Division, Enugu, Brig.-Gen. Isidore Edet, observed that cooperation among security agencies had helped to prevent and reduce crime in the state.
“The inter-agency security coordination already in place in Enugu will help us achieve our goal. “I want to thank the governor, as well as the people of the state, for their enormous cooperation,’’ he said.
Enugu State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Nathaniel Ubong, said personnel of the corps would use the vehicles to maintain security of lives and property, especially in the rural areas.
The army received six vehicles while Air force and Civil Defence Corps got two each. Enugu State Government had in June 2013, donated 100 security vehicles to the Nigerian Police for security operations in the state.
