Be Self Reliant, Amaechi Tells Corps Members
Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ Forum(NGF), Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi has urged the ‘’2012 Batch C’ members of the Nigeria Youth Service Corps(NYSC) in the state to be self reliant and resourceful.
Addressing youth corps members during the passing out parade at Isaac Boro Park, in Port Harcourt yesterday, Amaechi, charged the corps members to adhere to the vision of the founding fathers of the NYSC scheme and strive to give their best to their country.
With the task of seeking gainful employment after their one year compulsory national service, the governor urged them, “ to nurture and apply themselves to the practical lessons of self-employment which they have been exposed to in the course of the service year’’.
He reminded them that since there were scarce white collar jobs, they should be creative and self-reliant, as a way of assisting the government in fighting the rising rate of unemployment in the country.
Amaechi commended them for their efforts and contributions to the socio-economic climate of the state, noting that their achievements would remain green to inspire those who would succeed them.
“ For these contributions especially in the rural and disadvantaged communities where majority of you served, the state remains grateful, ‘’ Amaechi stressed.
The governor prayed God to grant them journey mercies and crown their future endeavours with success.
Meanwhile, about five members of the 2012 Batch C corp members died in the course of service, while 22 are to face dispilinary measures with 23 bagging excellence awards.
The figures were made public by Governor Amaechi in his speech at the passing out parade of the corps members yesterday in Port Harcourt.
While praying for the souls of those who died to rest peacefully in God’s bossom, the governor remarked that corp members were high stakeholders in the country and should therefore endeavour to sustain the vision of the scheme.
