The Nigeria-Sao Tome and
Principe Joint Development Authority (JDA) has constructed classrooms and toilets for Government Secondary School, Koma, in Jada local government area of Adamawa.
Inaugurating the block of four classrooms and toilets at the handing over ceremony in Koma village on Thursday, the Chairman of JDA board, Mr Luiz Prazeres, said the gesture was part of the authority’s social project scheme.
Prazeres, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Jada, said such projects in the area of education was undertaken in selected schools across the 36 states and FCT to deliver value to Nigerian youths.
“The project being delivered today is Adamawa’s share of the second phase of our social project scheme.
“There is also an educational assistance programme which has thus far awarded over 1,500 post graduate scholarship assistance in Nigeria.
“Similar projects are also being undertaken in Sao Tome and Principe,” Prazeres said.
While urging the school authority to make proper use of the facilities, Prazeres commended the Adamawa government for its support and cooperation in making the project a reality.
The Principal of the school, Mr Alphonsus Sali, and the PTA Chairman, Malam Abubakar Hammawa, commended JDA for the gesture.
They said the programme had addressed the problem of classroom and public convenience in the school.
They called on the state government to intervene in providing furniture for the classrooms and rehabilitate part of the school hostels affected by rainstorm.
The District Head of Koma, Malam Abba Hammanjalo, also lauded the effort of JDA and urged the school management to maintain the facilities.
Hammanjalo also urged the state government to address the plight of some of the newly recruited teachers in the school who were yet to get their salaries for several months.
“Many teachers do not want posting to Koma, hence those that took the challenge to come need to be encouraged by paying them their salaries promptly,” Hammanjalo said.
The state Commissioner for Education, Mr Gabriel Hama-Adama, who was represented by the Executive Secretary of Adamawa Post Primary School Management Board, Malam Ayuba Njidda, urged JDA to extend similar gesture to other schools in the state.
While pledging proper use of the facilities, Hama-Adama said the state government had conducted mass recruitment of teachers to increase the number of teachers in post primary schools in the state.
