The World Kick-boxing
Association (WKA) has concluded plans to hold a 3-day programme tagged Open Kick-boxing Championship between October 27 and November 3 this year in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The representative of the WKA in Nigeria, Sensei Victor Bassey, who made this known yesterday in an exclusive interview with Tidesports said that the WKA, would partner with the Sensei Bassey Buducan Promotion (SBBP) to organising the tournament.
According to him, the programme would be used to select athletes for the forthcoming 19th National Sports Festival to hold in Calabar, Cross River State next year.
It was gathered that the programme would be used to enlighten athletes and officials on new rules and regulations of the sport and further prepare the various states for the task ahead.
“This will be the first edition of the championship but plans are in the pipeline to sustain the programme as an annual event,” Bassey said.
About 15 states are expected to participate in the tournament, including the Airforce, Navy and Army teams.
Bassey, maintained that the programme would create opportunity for athletes who have interest in any of the force to discuss with the personnel after the programme.
