Members of the
Anambra House of Assembly on Monday, commended Governor  Peter Obi for  awarding some important road contracts even as his administration is winding down.
The members, in plenary, extolled him for awarding contracts for the Afor Farm  to Abube Nando Square road leading to Nsugbe in Oyi Local Government Area of the state.
Moving a motion of  urgent public importance,  Mr. Obinna Emenaka.(APGA, Anambra East) said Obi should be commended for awarding such contracts which involved very important roads barely six months to his exit as governor.
Emenaka said that the governor’s action was in line with an earlier motion passed by the legislature, urging him to construct some important roads in the constituency.
He said that the road meant a lot to the people of the area, especially Nando people, whom, he noted, were beneficiaries of one of  the major roads adding that work is already ongoing at some of the major and link roads.
Supporting the motion, Mr. Pauly Onyeka, (APGA, Ekwusigo)said that his constituency was also a major beneficiary of the road awards.
Also contributing, Idu Emeka  (LP,Onitsha North II) urged  the contractors handling the different road projects to deliver quality jobs and work according to specifications.
The gubernatorial election scheduled for November 16 in Anambra State will produce another governor as Obi completes his second tenure.
Meanwhile the Umuoba Anam community in Anambra West Local Government Area has urged the state government to facilitate the completion of Otuocha-Mmiata-Oroma-Etiti-Nzam road, to open up the agrarian communities.
A community leader,  Chief Sylvester Nnalue, made the appeal on Sunday during the Nigerian Army’s medical outreach to the area.
Nnalue said that whenever there was downpour within the area, the residents of the community were usually cut off from the rest of the state.
“We are praying that God should touch the hearts of those in government to finish the road which started eight years ago and links most of the communities in this area.“As you must have seen while entering here, our people are trapped, especially during the rainy season; only a vehicle with auxiliary gear and big tyres can move into this community. “Due to the deplorable state of the road, we find it difficult to move our farm produce to nearby markets in Otuocha area,’’ he said.
Nnalue commended the Nigerian Army for making efforts to get to the community with the medical equipment.
“We are grateful to you for remembering and taking the pain to come to our remote community. May God continue to bless the Nigerian Army and keep the country united,’’ he said.
