The people of Anambra
North Senatorial Zone have vowed to vote for a credible candidate from the zone in of the November 16 governorship election.
The zone comprising nine local government areas made the vow last Monday at a meeting convened by the Omambala Solidarity Forum at Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The leader of the group and former Health Minister, Dr Tim Menakaya, said the zone had many qualified persons who were contesting for the position, but could not win an election without the full support of their people.
Menakaya urged the people not to vote for candidates from other zones as it was the turn of their zone to produce the next governor after 22 years of the state’s creation.
“We must work hard to achieve it. It is now left for us to take the opportunity given to us with our votes. Nobody will take it away from us,’’ he said.    Menakaya commended Gov. Peter Obi for zoning the seat to Anambra North and assured him that the zone would provide a visionary leader for the state in 2014.
In his remarks, Sen. Emma Anosike urged the people from the area to be vigilant before, during and after voting to ensure that their votes were protected.
“Any credible candidate from here will have our votes, not political parties. We want to take over the government house next year.
“We must ensure that no single vote will leave Omambala for elsewhere. Our son must be fully supported,’’ he said.
The candidates from the zone include Dr Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Chief Basil Iwuoba of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).
The two candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Nwoye and Mr Nicholas Ukachukwu, both from the zone, are still engrossed in a legal battle for their candidacy.
