Amaechi, Others Lament Death Of Tonye Harry

Rivers State Governor,
Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi was among dignitaries who have sent their condolences over the sudden death of former Speaker of State Assembly Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry on Friday last week.
Governor Amaechi in a press statement said the former Speaker would be missed by those who knew him, while expressing deep shock over death of Rt. Hon. Harry.
The governor who recalled his last meeting with Harry at an undisclosed hospital regretted that Harry never recuperated from his ill health few weeks after.
Amaechi lamented that, “I’am still traumatised by the sad news of the death of Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry, I still find it impossible to come to terms that Tonye is no more”.
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi described the late Speaker who has represented Degema Constituency for the fourth term in the Assembly as an embodiment of friendship and a lawmaker per excellence.
Dame Amaechi observed that late Harry had distinguished himself and provided quality representation in the state legislature.
Similarly, Rivers Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru said “the news of the death of my friend and brother, Tonye Harry came to me as a shock. In his death, Rivers State and indeed Nigeria have lost an erudite politician per excellence”.
Rt. Hon. Harry was reported to have passed on early hours of last Friday after a brief illness.
Rt. Hon. Harry was two term deputy Speaker under Rt. Hon. Amaechi, the then Speaker of the House between 1999-2007, Harry later became Speaker during Amaechi’s first tenure as governor.
Late Harry however lost the House Speakership seat to Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan Amachree in 2011, and has since then retained his seat as a legislator in the House without any portfolio.
