Akwa United Battles Kaduna United Today
Akwa United said they
hope to beat Kaduna United at home today to improve their chances of staying up in the Nigeria top flight.
Akwa United are 17th on the table on 47 points, two points away from safety.
Media officer of relegation-threatened Akwa United, Uwem Ekon, said a shock 1-0 win at Warri Wolves on Sunday was the tonic they needed to win the remaining six points in their last two league games and beat the dreaded drop.
“Let me start by assuring our teeming followers that Akwa United will beat the drop,” Ekon said.
“What happened in Warri is just the tip of an iceberg as we have mandated ourselves to pick all nine available in our last three matches after some not too impressive performances in our home games.
“It is tagged ‘CODE NINE’. With Wolves out of the way, Kaduna United are the next on line and they stand no chance against us as we have our back against the wall in this survival battle.”
He added: “Kaduna United are a very good side no doubt but with the motivation in our camp and the collective resolve to keep our club in the top flight of Nigeria club football, they stand no chance against us.
“We shall built upon what helped us in Warri, where, despite playing with a man down and conceding a penalty late on in the game, we still came out with a deserved victory.
“I expect a tough match but we shall emerge winners so that our game against Kwara United in Lokoja will be used to celebrate our survival.”
